About
The Office of Compensatory Programs and Special Projects under the direction of Ms. Carole Mineo is responsible for developing, managing and reporting on several federal and state grant programs. The office has successfully completed another program year and audit of the following programs.
Mission
The mission of Compensatory Education is to provide supplementary educational services in reading and math so that all children in Poughkeepsie City Schools meet or exceed New York State Standards in English Language Arts and mathematics.
Programs
  • Title I, a federal program which provides supplementary assistance in reading and math for students at risk of not meeting New York State Standards in reading and math in grades one through eight.
  • Title II, Part A, a federal program which provides funding for additional teachers through the former federal Early Grade Class Size Reduction program and provides support for recruitment and retention of high quality teaching and administrative staff through staff development selected for effectiveness through scientifically based research. Title II, Part D, a federal program which provides resources for staff development in enhancing teaching and learning through technology. Title III, a federal program supporting teaching and learning for English Language Learners. Title IV, a federal program  which supports education for all students in grades K-12 designed to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors that build students' resistance to involvement in destructive behavior. Title V, a federal program for innovative programs. Vocational and Applied Technologies Education (VATEA), a federal program which provides funding for the improvement of vocational education at Poughkeepsie High School.
  • CR part 154, a state program for English as a second language, K-12.
