Activities mark 100 days for Clinton students
Painting, crafts, basketball, photos and, yes, even snacks.
Clinton Elementary School celebrated the 100th day of school instruction Feb. 20 with a wide array of activities designed for both education and fun.
“It’s an accomplishment. We’re proud of them. We want them to celebrate everything they’ve done this far,” said Assistant Principal Da Vetta Price, who organized the event. “When they say the cliché ‘they’re 100 days smarter,’ they absolutely are. They’ve learned more than they knew 100 days ago.”
With 14 different stations spread out around the building, students engaged in crafts that included coloring in 100th day tote bags and making 100th day hats, decorating bookmarks, stringing together necklaces and creating a schoolwide 100th day banner featuring each student’s handprint. In the gym students tallied 100 baskets made and in the music room they took part in cup stacking. In the cafeteria there were a number of things to do, including mixing together trail mix of various treats and eating ice cream. And, each student – and many of the teachers – had their photo taken in a 100th day photo booth, before decorating their own frame.
The activities were purposefully diverse, allowing the students to flex a variety of skills.
“Everybody has their strengths. We’re raising the next artists, the next authors, the next athletes, so we wanted to make sure we highlighted everything and everyone feels like they did something great,” Price said.
Celebration days such as these are especially important this year, she said, amid the district’s elementary reconfiguration initiative that converted Clinton to a grades 1-5 school to grades 3-5.
“We had so many new kids come here with the reconfiguration,” Price said. “When they first came some had a hard time transitioning. But, you see the camaraderie in the classroom now.”
