This Friday is a free Family Fun Night at The Academy presented by Read the World.
The event, from 5 to 7 p.m., will feature the opportunity to meet Varian Johnson, the author of “Playing the Cards You’re Dealt,” who will be available to sign copied of the book.
Read the World, now in its third year in the Poughkeepsie City School District, aims to enhance students' reading abilities, strengthen comprehension skills and ignite excitement for reading. The older elementary students, across an entire grade level, read the same book and engage in quizzes and activities to assess reading comprehension and potentially earn prizes.
The event Friday will feature books and reading fun, board games for all ages and light refreshments available for sale.
