Bus transportation details regarding daycare, service change requests

Posted Date: 9/10/25 (5:00 PM)

The Poughkeepsie City School District recognizes some students attend daycare centers before or after attending school.

Accordingly, in addition to bus transportation for students in grades PK-5 whose home address is more than a half-mile radius from their school, transportation is also available for elementary students whose childcare center is more than a half-mile from their school.

Details regarding the policy, 8410-R, are available on the Board of Education webpage. But here’s what to know:

An alternate pick up or drop off location is eligible if…

  • it is within city district limits and nearby an authorized bus stop that is deemed safe by the PCSD transportation department;
  • is a licensed daycare center or other district-approved location;
  • meets district mileage limitations;
  • the student is visiting on a consistent schedule.

Request an alternate pickup or drop off location by using the Add/Drop/Change Request Form available online, at your child’s school or at Central Registration. All forms must be submitted directly to the Central Registration office located inside the Jane Bolin Administration Building, 18 S. Perry St.

You can also find information on our Transportation Department webpage, www.poughkeepsieschools.org/transportation

Typically, alternate location requests are due by April 1st for the following school year; however, because transportation is being provided for the first time this year, all transportation requests should be received by Central Registration department no later than September 30, 2025.

If you are opting out of transportation and are choosing to provide your own transportation, please complete the same form and bring it to Central Registration.
