Career exploration workshops planned for Saturday Morning Lights

Posted Date: 11/21/25 (01:00 PM)

A new element of Saturday Morning Lights is beginning this week that will provide secondary students with valuable career exploration resources.
The Career Action Center is collaborating with the district to hold workshops open to all middle and high school students once a month on Saturdays through the end of the school year.
Each workshop will feature a different targeted topic in the area of career exploration. The district, in recent years, has made career readiness a focus at all ages. The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Career Action Center has been a partner in that work, conducting workshops and the Youth Entrepreneur Program from its office in Poughkeepsie High School.
The Saturday workshops will be at Poughkeepsie Middle School with two times offered each week: 9-10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.-noon. Spaces are limited.
This Saturday’s first workshop topic is titled “What Lights You Up? Career Path-Career Exploration.” Future topics include “Scrub In: Explore Health Careers,” “The Arts: Passion, Profession, or Both?” “Money Talks – Budgeting and Credit 101,” “Intro to the Trades 101 – Pathways to a Trades Career,” “Resume/Cover Letter – How Do You Apply For Jobs?” and “Be Your Own Boss – A Look into Entrepreneurship.” The final workshop on June 6 will be a summer resources fair.
